PDF-DownloadThe Iron Gate 1 & 2 navigation locks are located on the Rhine – Danube Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network and represent the backbone component of the navigation infrastructure on the lower
Danube. Rising maintenance costs and declining reliability prompted the government to upgrade the lock system for safer and more sustainable transport
The hydropower and navigation system Iron Gate 1 & 2 consist of a dam with two power plants and two double-stage navigation locks on the Serbian and the Romanian banks of the Danube River at river km 943 and
863. The complete upgrade of the Serbian lock on the right bank concerns all essential lock system facilities and components including the control tower, engine rooms, ducts, docks, gates, drives, cranes, lighting-, signalisation- , information- and management systems, hydraulic system and overhaul of both gates.
The 34 m high dam is overcome via two lock chambers (310 m × 34 m). The Serbian lock system on the right bank is about two kilometers long, while the entire passage extends over eight kilometers. Iron Gate 1 is the largest lock system on the Danube.
Supervision of works in the role of the Engineer under FIDIC Yellow Book and according to the Serbian regulations for construction supervision.
