As part of BUILD’N GREEN 2026, iC took part in a panel discussion. Our colleague Andreas Wohlrab joined the panel of experts on the topic of “Planning, Construction & Financing” and shared his experience from international projects.
The discussion focused on the key theme of Ukraine’s reconstruction, in particular the question of how urgently needed housing can be translated into concrete projects.
From need to implementation
The housing sector is one of the biggest challenges facing the reconstruction effort: millions of destroyed buildings and a significant shortage of energy-efficient housing call for scalable and feasible solutions.
The discussion showed that the path from identifying a need to implementation involves several stages:
- Developing specific, energy-efficient housing projects
- Creating suitable financing models
- Taking regulatory frameworks into account
Cooperation is key
Together with representatives from the World Bank Group and ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA, different perspectives on financing, planning and implementation were brought together. It became clear that successful reconstruction is only possible through the interplay of technical expertise, financing and institutional frameworks. International cooperation and coordinated strategies play a central role in this regard.
Prospects for sustainable development
The discussion highlighted the importance of integrated approaches in developing long-term, viable and sustainable solutions. In addition to technical implementation, the focus is also on issues of scalability and economic viability.
BUILD’N GREEN 2026 thus provided a platform for discussing practical ways of moving from concept to implementation and for generating new ideas within an international context.
