With the opening of its new corporate headquarters, ALDI SÜD has reached an important milestone in its corporate development. The modern office complex brings together numerous previously dispersed sites and creates a shared working environment for around 1,500 employees.
A conversation about a successful large-scale project
Mr Scheidtweiler from ALDI SÜD and our colleague Markus Willert met for a joint interview at the newly opened corporate headquarters near Salzburg. The conversation focused on the development of the site, the sustainable building concepts and the collaboration during the project’s implementation.
The new corporate headquarters now brings together around 1,500 employees at a single site and marks an important milestone in the development of ALDI SÜD. The modern office complex is located just a few minutes from Salzburg Airport, covers an area of around 34,000 m² and comprises six above-ground storeys as well as a single-storey underground car park. At the same time, the project offers fascinating insight into the requirements and success factors of modern large-scale construction projects.
Sustainability as a key component
Great importance was attached to sustainable building concepts right from the planning phase. The corporate headquarters is aiming for LEED Gold certification and completely avoids the use of gas and district heating. Instead, geothermal probes and a 250-kWp photovoltaic system are used, which provide a significant proportion of the energy required. The energy concept is complemented by rainwater harvesting, charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and the use of sustainable materials. An open atrium with spacious terraces and green spaces also creates a modern working environment and supports the building’s energy-efficient operation.
Coordination as a Key Success Factor
As part of the project, iC was responsible for on-site construction supervision, including HVAC and electrical systems, as well as for site coordination. Furthermore, iC oversaw the project from the excavation phase right through to handover, thereby ensuring the quality and smooth implementation of this major project. Particularly in construction projects of this scale, coordination between the numerous parties involved is of particular importance. In an interview, Mr Scheidtweiler emphasised that challenges are inevitable in a project of this complexity, but that these were successfully resolved through joint efforts. Particular mention was made of the added value of iC’s integrated approach: the coordinated management of all trades from a single source contributed significantly to the project’s success.
Cooperation based on partnership
ALDI SÜD’s positive assessment underlines the importance of close and trusting cooperation on complex construction projects. For iC, this feedback is also recognition of the achievements of all colleagues who contributed to the project’s success.
