Kick-off webinar | iC launches as Madaster Circularity Leader: Circularity & life cycle assessment in practice

How can circular economy and life cycle analyses be efficiently integrated into planning and construction processes? In a webinar from the Madaster partner series, iC demonstrated how regulatory requirements and sustainability goals can be implemented in a practical manner with the help of BIM, structured data and the Madaster platform.

As Madaster Circularity Leader, iC contributed its perspective on sustainable planning at the start of the webinar series. Our colleague Stefan Schützenhofer explained how BIM, structured data and digital tools help to efficiently implement regulatory and environmental requirements in project practice.

Regulatory requirements drive new planning approaches

The construction and real estate industry is increasingly faced with the challenge of recording and evaluating the environmental impact of buildings in a more transparent manner. National and European regulations are increasingly requiring a comprehensible presentation of material flows, CO₂ emissions and recycling potential. In the webinar, iC showed how these requirements can be integrated into existing planning processes by combining Building Information Modelling (BIM), structured material data and digital platforms such as Madaster – without fundamentally changing established workflows.

Implementing circularity and life cycle assessment in practice

A central component of the presentation was the practical implementation of circularity assessment and life cycle analysis in construction projects. Among other things, the following aspects were addressed:

  • Current regulatory developments and market trends
  • Fundamentals of circularity assessment and life cycle assessment (e.g. global warming potential, residual value, material origin)
  • Integration of this data into BIM-based planning workflows

The aim is to enable informed decisions to be made at an early stage of planning and to make environmental impacts comparable across projects.

Madaster as part of a digital sustainability strategy

As a partner of Madaster in Austria since 2023, iC has been involved in the development of the platform from the outset. Its role as Circularity Leader underlines the shared commitment to not only discuss topics such as material transparency, CO₂ assessment and the circular economy in theory, but also to actively implement them in projects. Madaster is used at iC as an integral part of a BIM-based sustainability strategy. The digital recording of materials, circularity indicators and life cycle assessments makes it possible to systematically analyse environmental impacts early on in project phases.

Webinar recording available

The recording of the webinar and a sample project are available free of charge to registered users on the Madaster platform. They offer an in-depth insight into the practical application of circularity assessment and life cycle assessment in planning processes.
