Two days, two worlds: The Geo Days 2025 took iC colleagues straight into the heart of Vienna’s nature and engineering. Between autumn forest trails and subway construction sites, participants quite literally delved into the depths of the city – with curiosity, team spirit, and a touch of genuine Viennese flair.
Day 1: Hiking, Wine, and the Vienna Woods
Despite the rainy weather, Team 12 set off on an autumn adventure together with Elea iC from Cobenzl. The route led through dense forests, past vineyards and an old stone quarry – a journey of discovery through Vienna’s green side. After the hike, a traditional stop at Heuriger Zimmermann marked a cozy end to the day: classic Viennese food, great conversations, and a relaxed get-together made the first day truly unforgettable.
Day 2: Up Close with Technology – Insights into Subway Construction
Day two shifted into technical gear: Visiting two tunnel construction sites operated by Wiener Linien offered exclusive insights into Vienna’s subway expansion. At the U2-21 site in Neubaugasse, the team witnessed the live arrival of a tunnel boring machine – an impressive moment for everyone present. Further south, at Matzleinsdorfer Platz, the group explored the U2-17 site, where NATM excavation work is currently underway for a future reversing structure. It was a highlight for all tech enthusiasts.
Team Spirit Meets Depth
Whether above Vienna’s rooftops or beneath the ground, the Geo Days 2025 provided fresh perspectives, fascinating insights into subway construction, and strengthened team cohesion. With wet shoes, tired legs, but a wealth of new impressions, the two extraordinary days concluded with a shared lunch.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this inspiring experience possible!
