The official opening of the new service building marks another milestone in the ongoing expansion of the ISTA campus in Klosterneuburg. The compact building fulfils a key logistical role and combines operational requirements with architectural design and sustainable solutions.
The logistical backbone for the growing campus
The new services building is centrally located between Haselbachgasse and Ringstraße and supports both day-to-day campus operations and the ongoing third phase of expansion at the research site. Following the completion of the campus nursery last year, this marks the addition of another key piece of infrastructure at the site.
Functionality meets architecture
Covering an area of around 573 m², the ground floor comprises a spacious, largely column-free hall. This provides the necessary space for deliveries, storage and operational processes. On the upper floor, high-quality timber cladding and profiled strip windows characterise the building’s appearance.
Sustainability considered right from the start
During the planning stage, particular attention was paid to the adjacent stream and its natural surroundings. The ground floor was designed in such a way as to preserve the existing buffer and riparian zones. This supports natural water infiltration and the site’s flood resilience. A photovoltaic system on the flat roof complements the energy concept and contributes to the sustainable development of the campus.
Project supervision by iC
iC was responsible for project supervision throughout the entire construction phase and oversaw the implementation in terms of quality, costs and deadlines. In collaboration with the main contractor STRABAG NÖ and the architectural practice g.o.y.a., the service building was successfully completed and handed over for use.
The new building provides the growing research hub with a functional and sustainable infrastructure to support campus operations and its future development.
