Favoriten Clinic | Ground-breaking ceremony for the new central A&E department

|   Projects

The start of construction on the new central A&E department at Favoriten Hospital marks another step forward for modern healthcare infrastructure in Vienna.

The new Central A&E Department (ZNA) at Favoriten Hospital is one of the largest current construction projects in Vienna’s healthcare sector. The project was developed in close consultation with Favoriten Hospital and the Vienna Healthcare Network. The aim is to optimise workflows, reduce walking distances and improve patient care in the long term through an integrated infrastructure. As Vienna continues to grow, the need for modern and efficient healthcare facilities is increasing. The construction of the main building at Favoriten Hospital will create the conditions for future-proof medical care in the south of Vienna and beyond.

Key medical services under one roof

The new building will bring key medical services together under one roof, thereby forming the heart of the site. At the same time, the central building integrates eight existing pavilions and, despite its impressive size, fits into the clinic’s established layout like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle.

With nine levels, shorter distances, clear layouts and an interconnected infrastructure will play a key role in shaping the future retail concept.

A wide range of medical specialities

The numerous departments, outpatient clinics and other specialist units include, amongst others, the newly established Central A&E, Intensive Care, Nephrology, Psychosomatic Medicine and Diabetology, Infectious and Tropical Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology and Pulmonology.

Planning and coordination

iC is supporting the project in the area of general planning and is overseeing the coordination of the complex planning interfaces as well as the integration of the various specialist departments. In this way, iC is helping to ensure the coordinated implementation of the numerous technical and organisational requirements.

Scope of the project

The project comprises around 73,300 m² of gross floor area, featuring approximately 2,500 rooms, 400 modern patient rooms and 580 underground parking spaces.

Construction will take place in several phases whilst the hospital remains open. Medical care for patients will continue uninterrupted throughout the entire construction period.

The first phase is scheduled to open in 2030, with full completion currently planned for 2035.
