A topping-out ceremony was recently held at the Landestheater Linz to mark the completion of the structural work on the building, which is now largely finished. Following the ceremony, Governor Thomas Stelzer and TOG Managing Director Thomas Königstorfer gave a tour to showcase the current progress of the works. The historic complex at Promenade 39 comprises the Schauspielhaus (main theatre), the Kammerspiele (studio theatre), the Redoutensäle and the Promenadenhof. Since May 2025, the building complex has been undergoing renovation and extension in close consultation with the Federal Monuments Office.
Restoration and new event spaces
One of the main focuses of the work is the restoration of the Redoutensäle. In addition, a new foyer is being built. Two further halls will expand the range of flexible event spaces available in future. The Promenadenhof restaurant is also being redesigned as part of the refurbishment. A new terrace is also being built on the first floor, which can be used for events and breaks in future.
Performances set to begin in October 2026
Performances are due to resume at the Schauspielhaus and the Kammerspiele from 8 October 2026. Completion of all areas of the Promenade Quarter is scheduled for autumn 2027.
Project supervision by iC
As part of the project, iC is responsible for on-site supervision to ensure quality, precise execution and adherence to deadlines. In addition to the public areas, the stage and rehearsal rooms are also being modernised in stages. The project therefore encompasses both the refurbishment and extension of the event and lounge areas, as well as work on the rooms used for theatre operations.
