Around 80 representatives from industry, the planning sector, consultancy firms, construction companies and organisations came together at Madaster CONNECT 2026 to discuss current developments in the construction industry and share practical experiences. The focus was on topics that will have a significant impact on the planning, construction and operation of buildings in the future.
A focus on current developments
The programme of presentations covered a wide range of topics, from whole-life carbon and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) to resilient procurement and low-carbon supply chains. Other key areas included Building Information Modelling (BIM), material passports, industrial reuse, digital stock-takes and product innovations.
The specialist presentations and practical examples highlighted the progress already made in these areas and the challenges that still remain in terms of implementation.

iC was also well represented: our colleagues Markus Auinger and Stefan Schützhofer took part in the programme with a specialist presentation on Whole Life Carbon and the EPBD, as well as a workshop. The session focused on the requirements for the life-cycle assessment of buildings and their implications for planning and implementation.
A platform for networking and knowledge transfer
As well as the specialist presentations, the event provided an opportunity for participants to engage in personal discussions. These discussions highlighted the keen interest in greater networking within the sector and underlined the importance of joint solutions to the challenges facing the construction industry.
Madaster CONNECT 2026 made it clear that issues such as the circular economy, digitalisation and carbon footprint accounting are becoming increasingly intertwined and are playing a key role in shaping the transformation of the industry.
