Significant progress has been made on the ISTA campus in Klosterneuburg: the structural work on the new service building has been completed. The project lays the foundations for efficient operational processes whilst prioritising sustainable construction methods.
A significant milestone in construction on the ISTA campus
After around five months of construction, the structural work on the new service building on the campus of the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) has been completed. This milestone was celebrated at a topping-out ceremony attended by all those involved in the project.
iC is overseeing the project and ensuring that quality, cost and schedule requirements are met throughout the construction process.
Central infrastructure for a growing campus
The new building is being constructed in a central location between Haselbachgasse and the Ring Road on the campus in Maria Gugging, and is designed to meet the increasing demands of a growing research hub.
With around 550 m² of floor space, the building will in future house key service functions and improve logistics and internal operational processes. A recessed ground floor creates a spacious forecourt with ample turning and manoeuvring space, thereby supporting efficient operations.
Clean architecture and functional design
Architecturally, the building has a clear structure: the ground floor, constructed from exposed concrete, is set back from the street by a green screen, whilst the upper floor is a timber structure featuring a striking wooden slatted façade.
A translucent joint made of profiled glass visually separates the two levels and emphasises the building’s distinctive design.
Sustainability as an integral part
The project focuses specifically on sustainable solutions: green facades and the design of the riverbank areas promote biodiversity and support natural water infiltration. At the same time, important buffer zones along the torrent are preserved, which has a positive effect on flood management.
A photovoltaic system on the flat roof complements the energy strategy and helps to conserve resources.
