Another section of the N2 national road has been officially opened in Vushtrri. The new 9.6-kilometre stretch represents a key element in Kosovo’s transport development and strengthens the link between the capital, Pristina, and the Mitrovica region.
Modern road infrastructure for better connectivity
The newly upgraded road has been widened to four lanes and meets modern infrastructure standards. A key component of the project is a bypass, which significantly reduces traffic congestion whilst improving connections between seven surrounding villages.
With an investment of around 25 million euros, the project is one of the region’s major infrastructure initiatives.
iC’s contribution to the project implementation
iC acted as the FIDIC engineer on this project and was responsible for construction supervision throughout the entire implementation phase. In doing so, iC made a key contribution to the quality-assured delivery of this infrastructure project.
Long-term project successfully completed
Work on upgrading the road began some 17 years ago, but for a long time it was not possible to complete the project. It is only in recent years that the project has been consistently driven forward and completed within the space of about two years.
The first section was opened to traffic back in December 2024. With the entire route now complete, another important step has been taken towards establishing a continuous link between Pristina and Mitrovica.
Outlook: Further expansion planned
The completion of the current section does not mark the end of the overall project. Further construction work towards Mitrovica is already planned and is intended to complete the link in the future.
The N2 is thus gradually developing into an efficient transport corridor that not only improves mobility but also provides an economic boost for the entire region.
