New lifts in Dachstein West | Sustainable modernisation of Angeralm and Aussichtsberg

With the official opening of the new Angeralm and Aussichtsberg lifts, a challenging alpine infrastructure project has been successfully completed in the Dachstein West ski area.

The new Angeralm and Aussichtsberg lift facilities were recently officially opened in the Dachstein West ski resort. The project involved the complete replacement of an existing chairlift and a T-bar lift with two modern, detachable 6-seater chairlifts and represents an important contribution to the sustainable development of alpine infrastructure.

Modern technology with a sustainable approach

As part of the project, an existing chairlift and a T-bar lift were replaced by two modern, detachable 6-seater chairlifts. In line with sustainability goals, one of the lifts was reused from Bavaria. Both mountain stations were rebuilt, and the valley stations were redesigned and combined into a single structure. This optimised operations and user guidance while also allowing for efficient organisation of the work carried out on the site.

Planning with a focus on the environment and permits

iC was involved from the outset – from preliminary planning and the environmental approval process with a focus on hydrogeology to approval by the cable car authority. A key priority was to minimise interference with the sensitive alpine environment. This included developing a concept for preserving a raised bog area in order to ensure a continuous water supply despite the construction work in the catchment area.

Geotechnical support and implementation within a tight timeframe

During the construction phase, iC supported the work by providing on-site supervision, including the acceptance of the foundation bases and advice on geotechnical issues such as the assessment of slope stability during construction and operation. Within a tight time frame, two existing lift systems were completely dismantled and replaced by two new systems – including mountain and valley stations and several slope adaptations. The implementation was characterised by environmental restrictions, weather conditions and challenging construction site logistics in alpine terrain.
