On World Engineering Day, outstanding engineering projects were honoured at the INGGenial Awards 2026. First place went to the new Roman bridge over the Traun river, designed by Schimetta Consult Ziviltechniker GmbH from Linz.
iC supported the project with local construction supervision and is delighted to be part of this outstanding infrastructure project, which combines sustainable construction with regional mobility.
Modern wooden bridge with a historic name
The New Roman Bridge combines contemporary engineering with historical references. Designed by Schimetta Consult, the structure features an eco-friendly timber construction and striking architectural details.
The bridge is barrier-free and allows both pedestrians and cyclists to cross the Traun comfortably and safely. Four integrated viewing platforms offer additional amenity value and open up impressive views of the river landscape.
Important link in the regional cycle path network
The new bridge closes a long-standing gap in the regional and national cycle path network. It creates a direct link between Wels and Schleißheim, thereby strengthening sustainable mobility in central Upper Austria.
In addition to improving everyday mobility, the connection also provides important impetus for leisure activities and tourism along the Traun River.

The INGGenial Award highlights the importance of the project as an example of modern engineering, sustainable materials and infrastructure that meets the requirements of future mobility.
