The new Internal Medicine III building at Salzburg University Hospital is currently the largest construction project on campus. Spanning nine storeys, two of which are underground, a state-of-the-art medical facility is being built which will bring several departments together under one roof. This centralisation will result in shorter distances and more efficient processes, particularly in the provision of oncological care. Across approximately 5,690 m² of usable floor space, 66 intensive care beds and an oncology day clinic with 27 places are being created. Around 370 kilometres of cabling form the basis for the hospital’s fully digital infrastructure.
Distinctive façade
Architecturally, the new building is characterised by a striking façade design. Salzburg natural stone on the ground floor gives way to a ceramic cladding that transitions from dark to light as it rises. The distinctive arches of the façade lend the building a unique appearance. The south façade has already been completed, whilst work on the remaining sections continues.
Interior work is progressing
Following the completion of the structural work, efforts are currently focused on the interior fit-out and façade work. Floor by floor, the future clinic is taking shape. The highest building on the campus is scheduled to open in early 2027.
On-site construction supervision by iC
iC has been commissioned to provide on-site construction supervision (ÖBA) and is overseeing the project directly on site. The focus is as much on ensuring the work is carried out professionally and to a high standard as it is on coordinating the work during this technically challenging phase of construction.
The new building will form a key component of future medical care at Salzburg University Hospital. Bringing specialised services together under one roof is intended not only to improve internal processes but, above all, to optimise patient care in the long term.
