Project objectives

After 130 years, the Schafbergbahn is entering an exciting future with the new ‘ErlebnisQuartier’. After two years of construction, the quarter combines historical fascination with modern and sustainable elements.

Project description

The new ‘ErlebnisQuartier’ is much more than just a reception building. The new facility includes a museum, a souvenir shop, an event area and the ‘EQ’ restaurant with a covered lakeside terrace offering breathtaking views of Lake Wolfgang and the Schafberg. The ‘EQ’ offers 100 indoor and 65 outdoor seats. The ‘ErlebnisQuartier’ impresses with a light-flooded hall that includes the ticket office and souvenir shop. The museum zone provides information about the history of the Schafbergbahn and the Wolfgangsee shipping company and is home to a historic locomotive from 1893 as a highlight. The new building used a hybrid construction method: A solid concrete building combined with a timber-shed roof and large glass façade. Focusing on sustainability, materials such as wood and steel were used. Moreover, a heat pump system, an 850 m² photovoltaic system and fossil-free cooling using heat pumps.
