Project objectives

The goal was to implement the Rapuni Small Hydropower Plant as a cascade system with two power plants on the Rapuni River in eastern Albania, near the town of Librazhd. Both plants feature Tyrolean weirs with desander structures, GRP penstocks (2.9 km and 3.7 km), and powerhouses housing Francis turbines. The hydromechanical equipment was supplied by the Austrian turbine manufacturer Kössler.

Project description

Based on a feasibility study conducted by Posch & Partner in 2007, iC carried out the detailed design and tendering for the Rapuni 1 and Rapuni 2 hydropower cascade, providing consultancy throughout all project phases.

Project data

• Rapuni 1: design flow - 5.3 m³/s, head - 100 m, and installed capacity - 4.5 MW
• Rapuni 2: design flow - 6.6 m³/s, head - 75 m, and installed capacity - 3.8 MW
