Koralmbahn Graz

Project objectives

The Koralmbahn is a newly constructed 130 km double-track, electrified railway line that directly connects Graz and Klagenfurt.

Project description

The Koralmbahn is one of the most significant transport infrastructure projects in Europe and is part of the new southern railway line as well as the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor. Its centerpiece is the 33 km long Koralm Tunnel. Moreover, the railway provides a crucial structural improvement for southern Austria. The Granitztal Tunnel was also built as a twin-tube system with cross passages every 500 meters.

Project data

The principal Lavanttal station is directly connected to the west portal of the Koralm Tunnel and extends southwest through the Lavanttal valley. Its main section is located in a 5,000-meter radius left-hand curve. The eight-track station with two island platforms connects the Koralmbahn with the Lavanttalbahn, which is integrated at its eastern end via a flyover. To the west follows the 6.1 km long Granitztal Tunnel Chain (GTT), which consists of: Deutsch-Grutschen Tunnel, Granitztal Enclosure, Langer Berg Tunnel. The GTT directly connects the Lavanttal with the Jauntal and includes a ventilation control center with an emergency exit as well as a closed tunnel bridge over the Granitzbach.
