E80 Motorway - Section Ciflik to Pirot East

Project objectives

Given Serbia’s geopolitical situation and the investment backlog of recent decades, integration into the Trans-European transport network is a top priority. The client launched a programme to complete the motorway E75 to/from Macedonia and Greece and the motorway E80 to/from Bulgaria. The objective of this project on the E80 is to ensure efficient construction supervision for completion within the quality, budget, and timeline stipulated in the Works Contracts.

Project description

The approx. 30 km motorway section between Niš and the Serbian-Bulgarian border includes a four-lane motorway, a parallel two-lane road, two twin-tube tunnels, 22 bridges, two grade-separated junctions, river engineering measures, and the relocation of power and data networks. The works were carried out under three construction lots and contracts. The hilly terrain required extensive slope stabilisation on the mountain side and hydraulic engineering along the Nišava River. Design changes for the parallel two-lane road led to modifications in the construction schedule and related claims management. The simultaneous execution of works at multiple locations required efficient contract management.

Services

iC, in consortium with Institut IGH, Croatia, was commissioned to provide the services of the Engineer according to FIDIC Pink Book and supervision according to local regulations (Nadzor). The services included contract and claims management, approval of materials and work programmes, daily site supervision, and construction progress monitoring.
