With financial support from the World Bank (WB) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), the client launched an initiative for the road modernisation programme to provide adequate road infrastructure by 2020. The project ensured that quality objectives were met and all works were executed in full compliance with the works contracts, time frame, and budget.
Site supervision for the construction of the 38.2 km long highway section connecting Sarajevo and Mostar with Neum and the Adriatic highways to Croatia. The hilly terrain in the Adriatic karst required extensive earthworks and blasting. To ensure timely completion at a technically demanding level, seven works contracts were concluded. The concurrent execution of works required efficient contract management for site supervision.
The highway works included a single carriageway with a width of 2 × 3.25m, two tunnels (190 m and 975 m), four underpasses (10 - 25 m), one 10m long bridge, and one 12 m long overpass.
The engineering services, provided in accordance with the ‘FIDIC MDB General Conditions of Contract’ and the client’s requirements, were carried out by an international consortium led by iC. The scope included design review, contract and claims management, approval of materials, execution and work programmes, daily site supervision, and construction progress monitoring.
