October 2024 - November 2025
- Research work on surface runoff
- Rainfall modelling of water level heights on the carriageway and in the surrounding area for heavy rainfall events
- Data delivery for the communication interface with road users
The project aims to increase safety on motorways during heavy rainfall events through a holistic approach based on two pillars: prevention and situation-dependent adaptation of driving behaviour based on model results.
The WETSAFE project is developing a digital twin based on laser scanning and hydraulic modelling in order to identify danger spots caused by heavy rainfall on motorways. The results are used to develop real-time traffic measures and communication with vehicles, including autonomous driving. Partners: JOANNEUM RESEARCH, GeoSphere Austria & Salzburg Research.
