Divaca-Koper Railway amazes GEODAYS 2023

Bringing together subsurface stakeholders is the aim of AVENIA, the organisers of the GEODAYS.

In 2023 the convention welcomed the participants from June 19th to 21st at Palais Beaumont in Pau. We are thrilled to have gathered and engaged in new subject matters of interest to all of us.

The conference was amazed by the Diva?a-Koper Railway Project. This year's GEODAYS showcased the remarkable construction of the railway track linking Diva?a and Koper. Spanning 27 kilometers and featuring 8 tunnels, this display of technical excellence conquers a substantial elevation difference of approximately 400 meters.

The most significant problem solved entailed navigating karst formations, traversing narrow adjacent valleys, and regions with little overburden. From a geological perspective, the project stood out, particularly due to prominent fault zones in the carbonate rock and the influence of tectonics on the flysch.

Designed as single-track, the longer tunnels were equipped with maintenance passages constructed with potential future expansions in mind. This symbolises a forward-looking approach to infrastructure development.
