Drau Flood Protection | Ground-Breaking Ceremony

|   Projects

Work has started on the extensive endeavour to protect the Drau from flooding.

Construction work has also begun on the Drau loop. The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for this undertaking took place in Rosegg. Our responsibilities include planning the construction, coordinating the plans, carrying out static calculations and local construction supervision.

A significant investment is being made in dams, concrete walls and the widening of the Drau River to initially protect 33 residential buildings from flooding. Special attention was paid to preserving the appearance of the neighbourhood. A section of the flood defence wall is being fitted with glass panels to provide an unobstructed view of the Drau. These upcoming measures in this area should be realised by 2028. Preparations for this construction work began in 2018. The Silbersee and Seebach will also be affected by this project and is expected to continue until 2028.

Initial deforestation work has already been carried out to remove the growth of uncontrolled vegetation that has developed over the years. These steps will make a significant contribution to restoring the area around the Seebach, where it flows into the Drau, and preparing it for protection against flooding.
