Operational | Arlinger Tunnel

|   Projects

This tunnel is intended to improve traffic connections and relieve congestion in the city centre.

We were responsible for the implementation planning of the tunnel and superstructure on behalf of a joint venture consisting of Oestu-Stetting and Jäger Bau. Plans for further expansion are already in the preliminary phase. The construction phase of the project lasted around five years and the required investment totalled around 130 million euros, of which 25 million euros are accounted for by the technical installations.

The tunnel is extensively equipped with safety precautions, including rescue tunnels, four cross-passages, three operations centres, two emergency bays, an extinguishing water basin, an emergency basin, ten accessible emergency call cabins (each with an emergency telephone, manual fire alarm and manual fire extinguisher), a fire alarm system throughout the tunnel, 17 loudspeakers and around 50 cameras. Two large fans are installed in the centre of the tunnel, which extract the exhaust air and blow it outside via a chimney, while a ventilation system provides fresh air. Before the tunnel was opened to traffic, there was a major fire drill for the emergency services.
