Trzcińsko Tunnel | Dual-track Operation

|   Projects

The two tracks between Wrocław and Jelenia Góra are operational.

In October 2022, PORR Bau GmbH/BU Infra-International commissioned us with the renovation of the Trzcińsko Tunnel. One of the main challenges was to minimise the impact on rail traffic.

The original width of the tunnel was increased from 8 to 11 metres and the height from 6.9 to 8.6 metres in the course of the renovations. A 120-tonne mechanical tunnelling machine ensured safety and efficiency and enabled uninterrupted rail operations through the protective tunnels. The geotechnical supervision and adaptable design of our team members were critical to the success of the project. This upgrade demonstrates our commitment to innovative methods as well as minimising operational disruptions and sets the standard for future projects.

Trzcińsko Tunnel, also known as Rohrlach Tunnel, is located in Lower Silesia, Poland, and has a track length of 293 metres. Opened in 1867, the tunnel had to be modernised to meet today's railway standards. PORR Bau GmbH carried out the project using the ‘tunnel-in-tunnel’ technique and successfully refurbished the tunnel, allowing up to 30 trains per day to pass through at reduced speed. The completion of the project is scheduled for the third quarter of 2024.
