Redevelopment of the Viennese tourist attraction Cobenzl in 1190 Vienna
City of Vienna planned a redesign of the Cobenzl, a popular destination for excursions. The existing buildings, Cobenzl Palace with its large domed hall and the dairy, were renovated and modernised. The adjacent panorama house and Café Rondell, on the other hand, were newly constructed and had to be adapted to the existing buildings.
Particular attention was paid to restoring the domed hall, built around 1900 in the Secessionist style, to its original state. Its 8 cm thick, self-supporting concrete dome forms the centrepiece of the site, which comprises four buildings: Schloss Cobenzl’s domed hall, the Meierei’s Salon I + II, the Panorama Haus’ gallery, panorama loft and garden salon, and the Café Rondell, on the roof of which is a freely accessible viewing terrace. The four buildings provide space for many guests:
• Kuppelsaal: 500 guests
• Meierei: 150 guests
• Panorama Haus: 520 guests
• Café Rondell: 100 guests
