Project objectives

Redevelopment of the Viennese tourist attraction Cobenzl in 1190 Vienna

Project description

The City of Vienna intended to remodel the Cobenzl, a Viennese excursion destination. The old building, Cobenzl Palace with its large domed hall and the Meierei are under a preservation order; these were renovated and modernised. The neighbouring Panoramahaus and Café Rondell, on the other hand, were newly built and had to be adapted to the existing buildings.

Project data

The grounds are divided into four buildings: Schloss Cobenzl with the Kuppelsaal, the Meierei with the Salon I + II and the Panorama Haus with the gallery, the Panoramaloft as well as the Gartensalon and the Café Rondell on the roof which has a viewing terrace that is freely accessible to all. The four buildings can accommodate a large number of visitors.

Kuppelsaal: 500 guests
Meierei: 150 guests
Panorama Haus: 520 guests
Café Rondell: 100 guests

Project specifics

Particular attention was paid to restoring the domed hall to its original state, which was built around 1900 in the Secessionist style and will form the centrepiece of the complex with its 8 cm thick self-supporting concrete domes.
