Project objectives

Design services for the entire safety equipment including smoke ventilation, fire extinguishing system and lifts at the emergency exits. The focus of the project was on the verification of the quality of construction works in compliance with quality standards and construction contract. In addition the client required technical consulting services in the construction phase.

Project description

The Lainzer tunnel connects the Westbahn, Südbahn and Donauländebahn railway lines in Vienna and allows much faster and environmentally friendly transport of passengers and freight within the capital city. The tunnel is part of the Westbahn railway line and of the European high-speed connection between Paris and Bratislava/Budapest.

Project specifics

High demands to fire protection and requirements by the authorities made the development of new system solutions necessary.

Services

The design included the positioning of the ventilators including silencers and of the ventilation ducts for all emergency exits. The entire tunnel will be equipped with a fire fighting water supply line with tapping points at the emergency exits and in the tunnel tubes. Preparation of tender documents for the entire saftey equipment, support in contract award procedures. Site supervision for the the safety equipment installation, conveyor system, fire extinguishing systemsand ventilation at emergency
exits.
