The former office complex from the 1970s will not be demolished, but refurbished and transformed into a contemporary building. By preserving the existing structure and transforming it into FRANCIS, over 10,000 lorry loads of construction waste will be avoided and CO2 emissions reduced by 18,625 tonnes - the equivalent of planting half a million beech trees.
FRANCIS is intended to revitalise the area around Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof by combining ecological sustainability with social commitment and creating a vibrant hub for community life in Vienna's Alsergrund district.
