Ljubljana Railway Station Redesign

|   Projects

While the new transportation hub represents innovation in terms of mobility and design, it also preserves elements of the historic structure that came before it in 1849.

The railway hub features a new overpass, an overhauled as well as protracted underpass and rearranged tracks with canopied platforms. This structure of geometric broken surfaces allows the canopy to illuminate the premises with natural light and will extend beyond the railway hall over the rails as well as cascade towards the platforms.

Platforms will be accessible through escalators as well as elevators. Meanwhile, cyclists as well as pedestrians can travel through the extended underpass, surrounded by commercial areas, connecting the city centre and Bežigrad.

The railway infrastructure will be encompassed by generous green areas. Conceptualised as an open space, enabling clear navigation and accessibility from any approach angle. Additionally, the green area will provide shade and reduce negative effects from the roads and railway.

Long-term environmental goals to mitigate noise, greenhouse gases, rainwater management, air pollution and temperature extremes were all considered in the planning of this project. Together with Sadar+Vuga and Tiring Engineering, Elea iC is delighted to showcase the newly redesigned Ljubljana Railway Station.
