New approaches to sustainability - discussion in the Industry Circle

|   Events

A large part of a building's emissions are released during its construction. This makes it even more important to focus on the renovation of existing buildings instead of constructing new climate-friendly buildings. The EU's Taxonomy Regulation is supposed to help with this, especially in the context of financing, but it is only one step on the way to climate neutrality.

The Industry Circle of Climate Lab and klimaaktiv dealt precisely with this problem. Experts from the sciences, the construction industry, the financial sector and administration gave presentations on the topic, including iC sustainability expert Markus Auinger.
The EU's Taxonomy Regulation is an important step towards the climate neutrality target set for 2050. It is intended to define what is considered sustainable, thereby making it easier for investors to steer capital into genuinely sustainable undertakings.

The building stock in Austria produces 12% of the country's CO2 emissions. Renovation, especially of insulation and heating systems, but also increased use of renewable energies in construction and subsequent occupation, are essential to achieve climate neutrality.Although science is constantly working on new solutions, much of the know-how is already available. What is important now is society's willingness to embrace this change.
