Opening the route: Klagenfurt - St. Paul

|   Projects

The Carinthian Koralm railway went into operation last month with the opening of the Lavanttal station.

This is the first milestone on a line that will connect Klagenfurt and Graz in just 45 minutes. iC was responsible for supervising the construction of both the mechanical and the electrical systems. We also demonstrated our expertise in structural engineering consultancy as well as in vibration, noise and air quality management.

It strengthens the Baltic-Adriatic corridor in Europe and makes freight transport by train in Austria more attractive, which increases the competitiveness of companies and reduces environmental pollution. Every tonne of freight transported by rail results in 15 times less CO2 emissions compared to transport by lorry.

The construction of the Koralm railway comprises 130 kilometres of track, including 50 kilometres of tunnels, over 100 bridges and 23 modern stations and stops. The entire Koralm railway is already under construction and partially completed, with trains already operating on some sections, while intensive work on bridges, tunnels as well as stations is ongoing.
