The main aim of the general refurbishment was to make the building barrier-free and to improve the structural fire protection while preserving the urgently needed floor space.
The Ottakring ‘Volkshochschule’, designed by Franz Ritter von Neumann and built in 1904/05, is a heritage-listed building with an impressive Wilhelminian-style façade that has already been renovated. The extensive refurbishment and conversion were completed in June 2024. Originally, the building had a large hall for 400 people, smaller halls, a library, the ‘Volkslesehalle’, teaching facilities and a canteen. The prestigious architecture with a central staircase was carefully renovated and adapted to modern educational requirements. Bright, spacious rooms with contemporary technology create an inspiring learning environment learning environment that combines tradition and the modern.
The net floor area is approximately 3,800 m².
